Finally Vista on AMD Turion

I got myself another laptop; Compaq Presario V6211 AU with Vista on it.

So this would be my first hands on on Windows Vista - Looks are cool but it eats memory like hell. I don’t know,

I do have 1 Gb of RAM though, still not enough… The wide-screen laptop is cool and had a gist of HDTV

Gotta do more research….

    Hi Sivanandan

How about the battery? Is it lasting long? If yes, How long?

    Thanks in Advance!

The battery life seems to be good, it is a 6 cell one. If you go for a 9 cell, it would be still better.

With Vista running on it, it gives you about 3 hours.

    Rajesh

    Hey Sivanandan,

I am planning to buy laptop and have stopped at compaq presario v6211 and compaq presario v3228au. The price dif is 10k. the difference is that of processor and screen size.

Tell me which one should I go. I am a journalis and main requirements are office aplications and need good remote internet coonectivity

tell me your experince with using this laptop. How is it.. Will the standrad memory 512 mb work or I need to upgrade. What will be the cost for the upgrade

Please reply ASAP….. That would be great

    Idhries,

I would suggest not to go for both of them. The reason being both of them use Turion and the Battery consumption is more, so considering your job if you’re on the run then this machine is not a good idea. As well, this thing emits a lot of heat and ideal condition is to use it in an Air conditioned Room.

Ideally I would suggest to go for a Pentium DualCore (maybe) and configuration with 512MB RAM with 80 GB harddisk would be convenient.

Thanks a lot for your valuable insight…
Being a telecom Journalist I am not too much on the move and spend considerable time in office itself.. Will it be overheating and battery charge still be an issue… How has been your experience. I some how am inclined for Compaq Pressario becasue of its perfomance and looks… So am falling for that

I just want to ask you how is HCL as a brand in Laptops becasue its laptop is core 2 duo with 120gb hard drive and 1 gb hard drive and dvd writer and still costs only 44k…to good to be true…

Give me a final vote as to who to choose HCL core duo and Compaq Turion…..

If you’re okay with the Heat (It is really not a laptop but a tabletop :-) )

Since you’re in Office I guess you could go for it. But I won’t vote for HCL stuff since I never had my fingers on it. But truely I have seen how Acer (Indian) perform so you can assume :-)

If you want the DVD writer then go for the one I have and it is pretty good.

    Rajesh

    Hi!
I am a graphic n animation student and i am lookin out for a laptop. I finalized for V6211au with a 1gb ram. Now reading posts by u guys..i think i should drop the idea…cause i need a very good ram for my course…so if i want this laptop…will 2gb ram work fine….OR can u suggest me with some other laptop…but i prefer an AMD n not INTEL. and wat is good….Vista Or XP?????

    Thanx!

2GB Ram would be good enough. I prefer XP than Vista right now the reason being a lot of software’s aren’t supported yet fully on Vista. As well, the Vista that comes on this laptop is Vista Home Basic.

    Rajesh

Nope, but it would work without any issues if it is a Ubuntu flavor I believe.

I’m trying out all Ubuntus, from 6.06, 7.04.
I tried 32bit and 64bit, but nothing works,
    all hangs at hardware check.
If you happen to install a Linux someday, let me know through talk.out[at]gmail.com
    Sorry to bother you.

    NiMaL
