What is a Browser?

June 23rd, 2009 rsivanandan No comments

  I read this information from ghacks.net, seems that Google guys went to Time Square, NY and randomly asked 50 people on “What is a Browser”. See the video below;

Many said it is a ‘Search Engine’. Now in a developed country like US and that too at Time Square, people do daily business through Internet and seriously I got Goosebumps when I saw this. This is not funny, less than 8% of the people who got interviewed actually knew what a browser was. So definitely this is not funny, it is scary!!!

Couple of my favorites;

“The one with the BIG E”  —- At least he knows it is A browser

“Google, of course Google dominates the market but we do use Yahoo as well” —- WELL!!!

Long Time – No See…

   It has been quite some time now that I wrote anything, many things happened during last 2 weeks in my life. I had been to my home town for a vacation week during which I got another attack of Epilepsy, had to be admitted in hospital for 4 days. I was quite desperate since the last attack I got was about 3 years back and was going to cut down/stop the medicines that I was taking on a daily basis. That was the recommendation from the last neuro-physician I met!

For those who don’t know, whenever I am tired too much, a high electrical surge happens inside my brain which takes me down and I get seizure convulsions, after which the body would be completely down/tired. Nothing can be done except for injecting high dosage epileptic medicines. After that I recovered and wanted to head towards Bangalore. Didn’t get train tickets and flight options are waste of time (I would end up spending more time in airport than the actual flying time). So I took a cab and came driving down. Well, Bad Decision! After reaching Bangalore, I got another attack and I ended up in hospital again. My friends at work took me to medical help in a timely manner [Though seems that the ambulance guy tried to put me to a “sophisticated” hospital who can produce magical bills in short time span!, good that my colleagues didn’t allow that to happen or else they’d have ripped me]

So I’m back to work now with a hurt back and am trying to cope up daily with pain killers, which is not something new to me though :-) Thinking of the situation, back at my place I was placed in a Christian Mission Hospital, and the complete charge for 4 days of stay (including 2 days in ICU) was only 5K, had I been admitted in Bangalore for such a long time, we’re looking at 15K easily! By the way for the couple of hours I was in ICU, I was charged 1600 Rs/- in CMH Hospital. Surprisingly the scandal around Medical Admissions were revealed yesterday which happened to be anywhere between 20 to 40 Lakhs for a medicine seat. This is just the donation part, then every year they have to pay fees of the order 3 to 4 lakhs + hostel + books etc etc etc. So the educational seats are literally “auctioned” it seems. These guys after they come out their studies would obviously charge and have the patients take all sorts of test just to make their share of the money spent on studying… I thought this was shocking, well today, in Bangalore it is revealed that in one of the colleges, NRI seats are auctioned at the rate of 1 CRORE per seat!

You know what I spent a total of 4.8K for 4 years of Engineering that I did in a Govt. College, but this year I am paying 75K for Elementary school fees for my Kiddo’s school.
